The Notoweega Nation is writing to express its intention to submit a documented petition should any be necessary for the State acknowledgment process under Title 25, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 83 (25 CFR Part 83), Procedures for Establishing That an American Indian Group Exists as an Indian Tribe. This letter of self-determination is filed in advance of our Tribes documented requirements.
We are an American Indian Tribe and have been operating as such and will continue to operate an American Indian Tribe for as long as the grass grows and the sky is blue.
Under Governor Strickland a Bill Proposal was put forth H.B. 149 – Recognizing the group United Remnant Band. The main requirement on that bill was that a Tribe must show continuance in the State of Ohio since before 1900. We can provide documentation showing we can meet the requirements of continuance as stated by H.B. 149
Further we can also show KINSHIP and TRIBAL connection to The Allegheny Lenape which already has State Recognition under Resolution H.R.155
I have been authorized by the Tribal Council of the Notoweega Nation to contact this office in pursuance of our self-determination as an American Indian Tribe.
Sincerely,
Notoweega Head Sachem
Marshall Dancing Elk Lucas.
